George Donald RSA (British, b. 1943)


George Donald was born in Ootacamund, S. India. He was educated at the Aberdeen Academy and later trained at Edinburgh College of Art from 1963 to 1967. He maintained his connections with the east by using a scholarship to travel across Asia. He then he spent a year at Benares Hindu University. In 1971 he joined the staff of Edinburgh College of Art. Studied at Edinburgh College of Art & Hornsey College London.

He is a painter in oil and a printmaker. Now retired from teaching he lives in the Borders and continues to work. Throughout his career he has been passionately interested in the study of anatomy, and figure work predominates in his work. His works are mostly of a semi-abstract and colourful nature. He is a regular visiting Professor in Art Colleges abroad. Examples of his work are in RSA, Glasgow Art Gallery, Aberdeen Art Gallery, SAC & City of Edinburgh collections, V&A Gallery, London.
