Robin Wilson and Rosie Fairfax-Cholmeley (British)

A selection of work from Oxford University artists-in-residence Rosie Fairfax-Cholmeley and Robin Wilson. Currently residing in their studio at Wytham Woods, Robin and Rosie are usually based at The Strawbale Studio in Duns Tew. The pair run Flagstone Press, and work in a variety of different medias; from woodcut and linocut prints to hand-bound illustrated books. Currently their work is concerned with the response to the environment which surrounds them, their aim being to represent Wytham Woods through sketches and prints. Robin has spoken of his interest in the scientific ecological work which takes place in the University's woodlands, and this interest is clear through the work produced. Places the pair visit often end up forming a large part of the research behind their collections; sketches and photographs act as the basis for their images. Robin attempts to combine art with visual anthropology through his printmaking. Earthy colours and natural scenes contrasted with smooth, simplistic lines and shapes inform Rosie and Robin's pieces. Work can be seen in the Pitt-Rivers Museum, Oxford where it is on display.
