Leonard Leslie Brooke (British, 1863-1940)


The renowned illustrator of Mrs Molesworth's Works, Leslie Brooke was trained in painting and illustration at the RA Schools, where he was awarded the Armitage medal in 1888. Producing work characterised by strong figures matched with delicate cross-hatching, Brooke rapidly realised his greatest talent lay in the illustration of children's books, and his many projects include Moonbeams and Brownies, School in Fairyland, and Edward Lear's The Jumblies.
